Sending Your Prescription Using E-mail or Picture Message

If you have a copy of your prescription but no easy access to a fax  machine, then you can e-mail us your prescription or send it via picture  message.  Please bring in your original prescription when picking up

your medication.

To send via E-mail:

  • Scan a copy of your prescription
  • Send it to us via e-mail at prescriptions@canadianapothecary.com
  • Make sure your e-mail follows the below guidelines:
    • We accept only the following file formats: .jpg, .gif, .tif, .pdf -- we won't be able to view your file if you send it in any other format. Most scanners store images in .jpg format by default.
    • Please keep the size of your attachment under 1MB (1  megabyte) -- we may have trouble receiving larger images. You should be  able to scan a 72dpi resolution image of your prescription in black and  white under 100KB.
    • Please include your order number in the subject line or body of your e-mail message so that we can easily associate your order with your prescription verification.

 To send via Picture Message:

  • In good lighting, lay your prescription on a flat surface.
  • Use your phone to take a picture of the entire prescription.
  • Include your order number in the text or subject line.
  • Text/Send the picture to prescriptions@canadianapothecary.com
  • Your carrier's standard message and data rates may apply.

It  may take up to 4-5 working days to process prescriptions received via  e-mail or picture message.

Standards of Practice

  1. The pharmacist has a responsibility to ensure it is a valid prescription and that patient privacy is respected.
  2. The prescriber has a responsibility to obtain patient consent to send a prescription through unsecured email and should only transmit an emailed prescription to the pharmacy of the patient’s choice.
  3. Unsecured email cannot be used for drugs listed under the Narcotic Control Regulations.  As a reminder, verbal prescriptions are now permitted under Health Canada’s short-term Sec. 56(1) exemption under the CDSA.
  4. Both prescribers and pharmacists are expected to follow their standards of practice at all times, including appropriate documentation and record-keeping .
